Description

The river has always been an important shipping route which determined the shape and success of Canada itself. The French dug channels to get bigger boats through the rapids, the British built canals with locks to bypass them. Marshes have been filled, artificial islands added, and banks reconfigured. Yet, despite all these interventions by man, the river keeps flowing along, as strong as ever.
