From the muddy lanes of her native Berry to the shimmering canals of Venice, by way of the streets of the 9th arrondissement of Paris, we follow in the footsteps of George Sand, as the story of her life unfolds in parallel to her literary work.
This film is based on her correspondence, paintings, the places she lived, readings and contributions from writers, from a pianist specialising in Chopin and from the curator of the house at Nohant. It paints the portrait of a 19th century rebel.
We discover an independent lover, an active woman, an engaged novelist, a writer who never rests, an insatiably curious artist, an ethnographer before her time, a staunch feminist and finally, a modern political woman, looking towards others. In short an eminently complex figure with a passion for freedom.
